My first trip to Paris was for my 40th birthday. I remember buying a baguette sandwich from Paul’s Boulangerie and sitting on the lawn at Sacré-Cœur, overlooking the city. It’s still one of my favourite food memories. And now this baguette sandwich recipe is a go-to for lunchboxes or picnics alongside, my Homemade Sausage Rolls, Chicken Sandwiches and zesty Lemon Slice.

Hint: Use a serrated knife to cut the baguette cleanly without crushing it - it makes for better layering and tidier slices.

Storage

  • Room temp: Enjoy within a few hours of making
  • Fridge: Wrap tightly in sandwich paper or plastic wrap, if making ahead for lunch
  • Freezer: Not recommended
  • Lunchbox: store with a freezer block to keep the baguette chilled

Top Tip

For packed lunches, wrap each baguette sandwich tightly in parchment or plastic wrap to hold its shape and keep the bread crisp. And keep it in a cooler bag, or stored near a freezer block on a warm day.
