Baked Donuts With Cinnamon Sugar

Fluffy, light and delicious;  my Baked Cinnamon Sugar Donuts are so easy to make and they're ready in under 30 minutes!

I have been hanging out to share these delicious donuts with you guys!  I mean, who doesn't love a great donut?  And seriously, is there anything better than a simple Cinnamon Sugar Donut, especially when they're baked, instead of fried?

My boys are the greatest taste-testers going around (thank goodness!) and these Baked Cinnamon Sugar Donuts were a huge hit with them!  I had to make a few batches just to get the photos, because they kept disappearing....🤔

WHAT MAKES THESE BAKED CINNAMON SUGAR DONUTS SO GOOD?

• Simple to make
• 10 minutes to mix and 10 minutes to bake
• Soft and fluffy cake-like dough
• Spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg
• Coated in a buttery, cinnamon sugar
• They're baked, not fried in oil!
• Remind me of our favourite donuts from when we were kids

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE 10 BAKED CINNAMON SUGAR DONUTS

• Non-stick donut pan.  I use 2 of these
• Room temperature butter for the donuts, plus melted butter for greasing the pan, as well as for brushing the cooked donuts
• Full cream milk
• 1 egg
• Nutmeg and cinnamon
• Sugar
• Vanilla extract
• Baking powder
• Cake flour (this makes the donuts super fluffy!)

THE SECRET INGREDIENT

Cake flour is finer than regular flour, contains less protein and produces less gluten, which gives a fluffier result in baked goods.  Perfect for these fluffy donuts!

I use Lighthouse Cake Flour that I buy from Coles.  If you can't find cake flour, you can make your own by following these simple steps:

• Measure 150g (1 cup) of plain flour
• Remove 2 tablespoons of flour
• Add 2 tablespoons of cornflour and mix to combine
• Use what you need (you'll need 120g to make these donuts)

MY TIPS FOR PERFECT BAKED CINNAMON SUGAR DONUTS

• Preheat your oven (always)
• Sift the dry ingredients
• Have your butter, milk and egg at room temperature
• Beat the butter and sugar on medium for a good 5 minutes
• Use a pastry brush to lightly brush melted butter into the cavities of the donut pan
• You can use either a disposable pastry bag or a larger snaplock back to pipe in the mixture.  No need for a piping tip, just snip the end off the bag
• After baking, let the donuts sit in the pan for 10 minutes.  Give them a little wriggle, then tip them out of the pan and onto a cooling rack
